Ellenboro’s Big Day is cancelled
There will not be a Big Day in Ellenboro on July 4.
Meeting Tuesday night for the Town Board’s regular business session, Aldermen unanimously voted not to hold the July 4 celebration this year.
“We will not have anything on July 4. We may have something in October,” said Alderman Sandra Weeks.
Weeks said there are many other events on July 4 and the attendance for Big Day the past few years has been decreasing.
“I know we’re going to miss it, but it’s so hot,” said Mayor Jim Rhyne.
Alderman Mike Rhyne and Weeks have coordinated Big Day for the past few years and due to the illness of Mike’s wife Pat, he doesn’t have the time this year to help. She was also instrumental in planning the Big Day event.
Big Day has been an Ellenboro event about nine years.
Also Tuesday night, Aldermen approved its annual audit contract with Don Heath and set May 20 for a budget workshop. It will begin at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.
