John Luther Littlejohn, 36, of Wintergreen Drive in Ellenboro, was arrested Saturday for violation of North Carolina General Statute 14-208.18, a sex offender unlawfully on premises.

Littlejohn was taken into custody at the Ellenboro fair by Rutherford County Sheriff's Detective Justin McCluney, who is in charge of monitoring sex offenders' locations.

G.S. 14-208.18 states that it is unlawful for a registered sex offender to be on the premises or within 300 feet of "any location intended primarily for the use, care or supervision of minors, including, but not limited to, schools, children's museums, child care centers, nurseries and playgrounds" or at any location "where minors gather for regularly scheduled educational, recreational or social programs."

"Because the Ellenboro fair has all those activities where there are children and young adults gathered who have to be so tall to get on the rides, he was in violation of the law," said Sheriff Chris Francis.

Littlejohn received a $100,000 unsecured bond for a sex offender on child premises violation.
