Ellenboro man assaults female at residence

After arrest, assaults inmate in holding cell

Jonathan Nelson Lowery, 42, of Ellenboro Henrietta Road in Ellenboro, was taken into custody by deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office following an incident of assault on a female and assault with a deadly weapon.

Around 6:44 p.m. on Monday, deputies responded to an assault at Lowery's home involving a 39-year-old female victim of a different residence.

According to the police report filed, Lowery and the victim were recently involved in a dating relationship. The victim's daughter brought her to Lowery's residence and left her there, the report stated.

During the assault, Lowery struck the victim with a matted handle and a baseball bat, inflicting serious injuries to her face and head.

She was transported to Rutherford Regional Medical Center where she was treated and subsequently released.

After Lowery was taken to the Rutherford County Jail, he assaulted an inmate in his holding cell, the report advised.

Lowery's charges in both assaults include assault on a female, assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, assault and battery and resisting a public officer. He received a $17,500 secured bond for his charges.

After reviewing the victim's injuries on Tuesday, Det. Julie Greene with the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office additionally charged Lowery with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

A bond has yet to be set on the additional charge.
