Storm cancels governmental meetings

Lake Lure Town Council will publicly thank Facebook for its Community Action Grant awarded them in 2013, when they meet for its business meeting Monday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m. at the Lake Lure Municipal Center. The meeting was also cancelled last week due to the weather.

The Board will also consider adopting a resolution supporting Lake Lure and expressing the value of retaining the existing local soil erosion and sedimentation control program.

Council will consider extending the golf course operation lease agreement and will also consider approving a request to suspend the town's alcohol ordinance for an event at the bonfire at the beach on May 18.

The board will appoint a representative to serve on the Isothermal Planning and Development Commission's Board of Directors.

Council will also discuss large estate lots, principal residential buildings, capital improvement projects and the town's water and sewer fund.

Sharing the history of Chimney Rock Village

FOREST CITY — The history of Chimney Rock Village, a summary of the budget process, legislative duties and Village ordinances will be reviewed when Village Council meets at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 18, postponed from last Tuesday due to the winter storm. 

The meeting is a continuation of the January Village Council meeting.

 After the workshop, Council will begin its regular business meeting at 7:30 p.m. 

Mayor Barbara Meliski also plans to review the general guidelines and procedures of Council activities during the meeting/workshop to be held at the Chimney Rock Village Community meeting room.

Meliski decided to hold the workshop along with the regular meeting to further update the three new Council members on the operations of the Village.

Bruce Godzik and April Sottile were elected to serve on Village Council in November. When Linda Thompson resigned her position on the council last month, Chuck Horton was elected to fulfill Thompson's unexpired term that ends in 2015. The other  board member is  Mayor Pro Tem Rose Senehi. She is in the middle of her first four-year term.

Meliski said since there was three new members on the board it was important to review the history of the Village and the procedures.

When the Village Council meeting begins at its regular 7:30 p.m. time slot, council will received reports from the Mayor that will include a stipend for council members attending Essentials of Municipal Government School.

Rates for the use of The Gathering Place Amphitheater will also be discussed at the regular meeting. 

Audit on Ellenboro's agenda

ELLENBORO — When Ellenboro Aldermen meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday for the regular business session, board members will receive the annual audit report and will also review the town's personnel policy.

The board will also discuss problems with the lawnmower.

The meeting was cancelled last Tuesday due to the weather.
