Man arrested in theft of laptops from school

Deputies with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office continue to search for numerous Dell Latitude laptops missing from the old Ellenboro Elementary School.

On June 6, Rutherford County Schools filed a report with the Sheriff’s Office regarding an incident of breaking and entering into the school and larceny of several computers.

During the investigation, deputies recovered seven Dell Latitude laptops, three Dell CPU towers and one Dell monitor from various locations across Rutherford County.

Suspect Billy Dewayne Greene, 23, of Ellenboro was arrested Sunday for his involvement in the incident.

Greene was charged with two counts of felony breaking and entering, two counts of felony larceny after breaking and entering and one count of obtaining property by false pretense.

He is currently being held in the Rutherford County Detention Center on a $30,000 secured bond.

According to deputies, several laptops belonging to Rutherford County Schools have yet to be located.

Some of the laptops have markings made by Rutherford County Schools to show ownership.
