Village Council discussed the 2013-14 fiscal year budget during a workshop prior to Tuesday night's regular business meeting in Chimney Rock.

According to Town Clerk Bill Whitman, council members and town staff believe the tax rate will not increase for the new year.

The rate is 7.5 cents per $100 property valuation.

"We feel we can keep it at that," Whitman said.

Council discussed expenses and revenues in the current budget and there appears to be few changes.

"We won't know for sure until we get the third quarter bills," Whitman said.

During the regular council meeting, the board listened to a presentation from the Community Development Association (CDA) regarding a concession and storage shed for The Gathering Place. The CDA will bring the final plans to the regular meeting on

May 21 with a firm plan.

Whitman said the board also talked about the path connector between Lake Lure and Chimney Rock.

"I will proceed to lay that out and then we'll move forward," Whitman said.
