Old fashioned Christmas events
CHIMNEY ROCK — An old fashioned Christmas event, Santa greeting children in Rutherfordton, Forest City and Chimney Rock Village; hay rides, carriage rides and a performance by Rutherford Community Theatre are among the festivities beginning today.
Santa in Rutherfordton tonight
RUTHERFORDTON — Santa Claus will be in downtown Rutherfordton tonight, again on Dec. 14 and Dec. 21 in the Town Park beginning at 6 p.m. Music will be provided as shoppers visit downtown stores and children meet Santa Claus.
Chase Jazz Band in Chimney Rock Village Saturday
CHIMNEY ROCK — Santa Claus be in in Chimney Rock Village Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. He'll arrive in the Village after spending a few hours climbing down the chimney in Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park, and also greeting tourists there on Saturday.
The Chase High School Jazz Band will present special music in the Village from 5 to 6 p.m. and other music will also be presented while Santa Claus greets the children.
Village Shops and restaurants will be open; there will be a bake sale, carol singing and at 7 p.m. the tree lighting ceremony at The Gathering Place, near the Chimney Rock Fire Station.
The public is encouraged to attend.
Hay rides tonight; carriage rides Saturday
FOREST CITY — Carriage rides will be held Saturday in downtown Forest City from 6 to 9 p.m. and will also be held Dec. 15 and Dec. 22. Cost is $7 adults; $3 for children.Cost $7 for adults and $3 for children.
Christmas lights can also be seen from a hay wagon pulled by an antique tractor tonight from 6 to 9 p.m. and again on Dec. 14 and 21.
Santa House is open weekends through Dec. 22.
There is no charge for the children to talk with Santa. $5 dollars for a photo with Santa as a donation.
Santa Claus will pose pets Sundays, Dec. 9, 16 and 23 at 6 p.m. at Santa House in Forest City. The event is sponsored by Community Pet Center a $5 donation will be charged for photos with money going to the pet center.
Ice Skating at the Santa house is held each weekend until New Year's at winter skate, hosted by Kidz Play.
"A Hillbilly Christmas" at Green River
FOREST CITY — Rutherford Community Theatre and CEO/Artistic Director, Les Beale, announces its cast for its upcoming Christmas production, “A Hillbilly Christmas Carol,” by LeRoma Eshbach Greth.
This Christmas comedy in one act set in the Ozarks is produced by special arrangement with The Dramatic Publishing Company of of Woodstock, Illinois.
The play will be performed at the Green River Plantation’s Christmas Dinner Theater on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and Dec. 15.
Dinner for both performances will be at 6:30 p.m. followed by the show at 7 p.m. The cost is $25 per person for both dinner and show. Reservations are required. Call 286-1461 for tickets and directions.
