BOSTIC — If you like beautiful scenery and running, then South Mountain Christian Camp has the perfect event for you.

The camp, located in Bostic, will be holding their first annual South of the Mountain Trail Run on Saturday, Nov. 3 starting at 9 a.m.

"This is the first time we have had something like this. We had a lot of people asking us about having a 5k last year. They kept suggesting that we do the race out here as a trail run," said Steve Collins, executive director. "There are a lot of races that go on in the county, but ours is a little different because it is not just out in the pavement or on the side of the road. We are actually running all on camp property. Some of it will be through the grass, in the trails in the woods and on the camp roads."

The race is for people of all ages. You can pre-register online for $20 or register at the camp for $25 the day of the race.

"There are a couple of ways people can sign up. They can go to our website and fill out an online registration form and make the online payment. Or there is a paper from that they can print out. The day of the race we will have a lot of paper forms available and they can sign up then. They save $5 if they sign up ahead of time," Collins said. "We have some kids that are coming to run and some senior citizens. It is definitely for all ages. It is also not just for the runners, we have a number of people planning on coming and walking the course."

The race is a fundraiser for the camp.

"The money raised will go to the general operation of the camp, which includes are summer camp and the outdoor education programs," Collins said.

Medals will be given to the top three winners in each of the 12 age categories. Free T-shirts will also be given to the first 100 people who sign up.

"We have medals to give out to the top three male finishers and the top three female finishers. We will also give them to the top three make and females in the different age categories," Collins said. "Right now we have around 42 people signed up. We are hoping for 100 people but I don't know if we are going to get there unless we have a big flood to register soon. The first 100 people to register will receive a free t-shirt. People should pre-register to make sure they get a shirt."

Collins says that the camp is the perfect location for the trail run.

"It is going to be gorgeous with the fall colors. The course winds around the camp property. It will be a really pleasant experience, even if you aren't really competing," Collins said. "This trail run is the perfect fit with our location and the property we have. It is an ideal situation. We want it to become an annual event in the fall. Hopefully it will grow each year."
