Construction is underway on a new Taco Bell off US 74B near the Holiday Inn Express. The Taco Bell on Oak Street extension in Forest City will be torn down when the new restaurant opens.

PHOTO: $4.1 million investment

White Oak Carpet Mills, LLC., based in Wichita, Kansas is expanding its operations to the former Mastercraft Corp. building off Old Ballpark Road in Spindale. The company will invest $4.1 million in the palnt and plans to create over 40 new jobs over the next three years. The project was completed with work by the company, the Department of Commerce, the Town of Spindale, the State of North Carolina and the Economic Development Commission of Rutherford County. The company nw employs 14 people in Rutherford County in another building.

PHOTO: Awarded $1,000 scholarships

The Rutherford County Home Builders Association awarded two $1,000 scholarships to two high school seniors at the June meeting. Receiving scholarships are Lindsey Ann Bailey who will attend Isothermal Community College and Spencer Lawson White who will attend North Carolina State University. The Rutherford County Home Builders Association protects the American Dream of home ownership through advocacy, education and professional business development. VIDEO: Remembering the Hilltoppers

R-S Central High School held a pep rally to celebrate the premiere of 32-0. The documentary tells the story of the 1980 Hilltopper mens basketball team that went undefeated and won the 3A state championship. The movie premiered at The Foundation at Isothermal Community College on Saturday, April 11.

The symphony was the highlight of the annual SpringGo in the village. The symphony and the festival will be featured on Sunday's Spotlight Page, C1.
