Forest City Fire Rescue and Rutherford County EMS attend to victims sustaining minor injuries Friday morning in a three car collision on US 74A in Forest City.Timothy Gay was driving a Chevrolet Cavalier and failed to stop when he struck the Ford 500 in the rear. That pushed the Ford, driven by Dorothy Jones into a Chevrolet Camero driven by Darlene Robbins. All three drivers were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Gay was charged by the North Carolina Highway Patrol with failure to reduce speed.

PHOTO: Little league champions

Rutherfordton's 11-12 All-Stars won the District 1 championship on Monday night by defeating Chase 16-5 at Crestview Park. Rutherfordton will now advance to the state tournament. Members of the team are Kael Snethen, Micajah Wall, Riley Stanley, Caleb Crain, Cameron Hill, Bingham Higgins, Braxton Flack, Christian Hardin, Anthony Walker, Brock Byrd, Malachi Ryan, Brock Harris and Coleman Pritchard. Coaches of the team are Cooper Flack and Curtis Snethen. The manager is Chad Wall.

PHOTO: Trail work

New sidewalks are being set along Park Street in Rutherfordton as part of the town's Purple Martin Greenway Trail. The segment is part of a town-wide trail system that will connect Rutherfordton's two largest park assets Crestview Park and Kiwanis Park. The town's NC STEP (Small Towns Economic Prosperity) Destination and Tourism Committee formed a subcommittee to focus on the trail project and is utilizing STEP funds for the construction.

Flowers from this Clay Street, Forest City garden are soaking up raindrops  Tuesday morning. After a stormy start, the rain turned to a gentle rain a much needed heavenly gift for growing vegetables and flowers.

PHOTO: Collision at intersection

Bostic firefighters on the scene of a two vehicle collision Monday afternoon at the intersection of Piney Mountain Church Road and Bostic-Sunshine Highway at Washburn General Store. One person was taken to the hospital for treatment. The car above failed to stop and struck another car in the driver's side. It came to a rest in the ditch on the opposite side of the road. Bostic firefighters, the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Rutherford County EMS and Rescue responded.

VIDEO: Remembering the Hilltoppers

R-S Central High School held a pep rally to celebrate the premiere of 32-0. The documentary tells the story of the 1980 Hilltopper mens basketball team that went undefeated and won the 3A state championship. The movie premiered at The Foundation at Isothermal Community College on Saturday, April 11.

The symphony was the highlight of the annual SpringGo in the village. The symphony and the festival will be featured on Sunday's Spotlight Page, C1.
