MCKOOL: What is true health?
Have you been diagnosed with a chronic, degenerative disease like diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart disease, irritable bowel, colitis, hypothyroidism, obesity? Or an auto-immune disease like lupus, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis or celiac disease?
Have you been told that you are doomed with this disease for the rest of your life, and that you will have to take medications the rest of your life?
Well I’m here to tell you that these things can be reversed! You are not doomed with it the rest of your life!
Your health IS in your control, much more than you realize! But the first thing that needs to take place in order to reverse these diseases is a change in your thinking as to what health really is.
First, there are 2 main objectives when it comes to disease and health. You either chose to manage your disease through drugs and surgery and follow the path of traditional medicine known as disease management. Or, you can chose to uncover the root cause of the problem and restore your body back to good health, using natural approaches, known as whole-istic health. Once you decide what your objective is, you need to align yourself with resources and when necessary, healthcare practitioners, traditional or natural, who have the same objective as you do.
So let’s say you want to restore your body back to good health, using natural approaches. The first thing you need to do is assess your health as a whole – mental (i.e. time management, budget, career, purpose in life etc.), emotional, physical and spiritual — I call these the 4 quadrants of the health pie. Then you need to uncover the root cause of the problem by determining what quadrant of the health pie does the root of your problem lie in. For example: you feel tired because you are only getting five hours of sleep a night because you are holding down two jobs, raising four children and taking classes at the community college three nights a week. The “root” of your problem lies within the mental part of the health pie – you are burning the candle at both ends – you are trying to fit 28 hours into a 24 hour day! This is the root cause of your lack of energy and sleep deficiency! You don’t need another cup of coffee or energy boosting pill, you need to re-assess the priorities on your “plate” – no pun intended!
Now within the physical part of the health pie, there are 5 pieces that are absolutely vital and foundational to you achieving and maintaining optimum health and healing in regards to your physical health. They are: 1) rest, 2) water, 3) exercise, 4) good nutrition in, toxic foods out, and 5) good nerve supply. Each of these areas needs to be restored, maintained and kept in good balance. I will elaborate on each of these arenas more in the weeks to come.
These are the beginning steps to restoring your body back to good health using natural approaches – this is the foundation of where to build your health. I am excited for you as you follow these practical and common sense steps! I will throw out a caution here, if you make a commitment to restoring your body back to good health, using natural approaches, it won’t be easy, it will take a lot of work – but it will be sooo worth it! It truly is FREEDOM!
