Rutherford County Arts Council has announced auditions for its spring production, <I> The Golden Goose, a musical play by Diane McEnnerney based on the  classic tale “The Princess Who Couldn’t Laugh” by the brothers Grimm.

Auditions will be held on Thursday, Jan.  9 at 5:45 P.M. in Maple Street Theatre at The Rutherford Learning Center (old Rutherfordton Elementary School).  The production will be presented at The Foundation at Isothermal Community College on April 4 and 5.

The musical has over 50 featured characters and will incorporate the All-County Chorus of the Playing For Keeps After School Program.

The story concerns Princess Gwendolyn, who never laughs and who adamantly refuses to get married as her duty demands, no matter how convincingly her parents beg and plead .  Finally fed up with her stubbornness, her father announces that she shall marry the first suitor who can make her laugh, regardless of his social standing.  The challenge is taken up by many from around the world.  Will anyone succeed in his quest?  Will Gwendolyn finally laugh?   And what about the mysterious Wood Elf who keeps appearing at unexpected moments?

Actors of all ages are welcome and the participation of families is encouraged.  No previous experience is necessary.
