Fire destroyed outbuilding
ELLENBORO — An outbuilding belonging to Leslie Lyda was destroyed by fire Tuesday afternoon. Assistant Fire Chief Robbie Downey said the fire was apparently caused by an electrical cord that was run from the house to the building for a space heater. Downey said Lyda came home and found the building on fire. The grass around the building had burned and the fire also melted the vinyl siding on a portion of the house. If she had not come home when she did the fire could have been much worse and gotten into the house,Downey said.
The building and contents were destroyed with an estimated $5,000 damage. Repairing the vinyl siding will cost about $2,500.
Downey also said Lyda had just recently moved family photos and high school yearbooks and other memorabila to the outbuilding and they were destroyed by the fire.
Downey said the department was able to knock the fire down quickly.
The fire was accidental.
