Passenger remains in hospital
FOREST CITY — A 19-year-old woman, Courtney Aldrich, of Mooresboro remains a patient at Mission Hospitals in Asheville as the result of an automobile accident Saturday just after midnight.
Aldrich was a passenger in a 1991 Chevrolet that was driven by Jason D. Stepp, 24, of Mill Spring, her family member said Tuesday.
According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Stepp failed to stop at a stop sign on Chesterfield Road and hit a 2000 Chevrolet driven by Hayden Lee Murray, 23, of Mooresboro who was traveling south on U.S. 221A.
Stepp's Chevrolet ran off the road to the left and overturned down an embankment.
Stepp was taken to  Rutherford Regional Medical Center for treatment and was charged with stop sign violation.
Aldrich was flown to Asheville at about 2 a.m. Sunday where she underwent surgery on Monday and additional surgeries are scheduled, the family member said on Tuesday morning.

Lashawna Chanelle Cannady, 16, Dogwood Lane in Forest City, disorderly conduct in school; $500 bond.
Jalin Ganea Miller 16, O'Neal Road in Union Mills was charged with disorderly conduct in school; $500 bond.
Joshua Ryan Jackson, 21, Nolen Road in Forest City, true bills of indictment on larceny of firearm, possession stolen goods, property and obtaining property by false pretense; $8,000 bond.
Marcella Littlejohn, 55, Littlejohn Domain Road in Forest City was charged with littering; $500 cash bond.
Stephen Jermaine Thomas, 33, Old Ballpark Road in Spindale was charged with assault by strangulation and assault on female; 48-hour hold.
James Edward Wright, 62, Second Street in Forest City, charged with resisting public officer; written promise to appear.
