House fire in Cliffside
CLIFFSIDE — A kitchen was destroyed and the remainder of the house sustained heavy smoke and water damage as the result of a fire at 12 p.m. Sunday on Ragtown Road near Cliffside.
The homeowner, Samuel Keeter, told Cliffside firefighters when he arrived at home he discovered the fire in the kitchen and got a water hose to put the fire out and called 911. The fire appears to have started behind the refrigerator.
Keeter had insurance on the house.
Assisting Cliffside at the scene were Sandy Mush and Ellenboro.
He was assisted by the scene by friends and family. 
Cash injured
FOREST CITY — Tangela Yvette Cash, 38, of Rutherfordton sustained injuries in a two-vehicle accident Sunday at 4:27 p.m. According to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Cash was traveling south in a 1999 Chrysler on Poors Ford Road and Brandy Lynn Cordell, 16, was also traveling south, driving a 2010 Nissan. Cordell failed to reduce speed, crossed the center line and hit the Chrysler as Cash was attempting to make a left turn into a private driveway.
Cordell was charged with failure to reduce speed. Cash was taken to Rutherford Regional Medical Center by Rutherford County EMS.
Woman injured in two-car wreck
FOREST CITY — A two-vehicle accident Sunday at 1:47 p.m. sent one person to Rutherford Regional Medical Center and another was charged in the accident. 
Curtis Wayne Neely, 58, of Ellenboro was driving a 2001 Nissan and had stopped at Bostic-Sunshine Highway when Kimberly Shehan Mecadeo 49, of Forest City, driving a 1998 Ford Truck, was traveling west on US74B. Neely failed to yield and made a left turn into the path of the Ford truck.  Neely was charged with failure to yield. Neely was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries.
One hurt, one charged
FOREST CITY — One person went to the hospital and was also charged in a two vehicle wreck Saturday at 11:43 a.m.
Jason D. Stepp, 24, of Mill Spring was driving a 1991 Chevrolet and Hayden Lee Murray, 23, of Mooresboro was driving a 2000 Chevrolet, when Stepp failed to stop at a stop sign on Chesterfield Road and hit Murray's car that was traveling south on US221A.
Stepp's Chevrolet ran off the road to the left and overturned down an embankment.
Stepp was taken to  Rutherford Regional Medical Center for treatment and was charged with stop sign violation.
911 Calls
Rutherford County Sheriff's Dept. responded to 209 calls during the weekend; Forest City police had 87 calls; Rutherfordton police had 73 calls; Spindale was dispatched to 32 police calls and Lake Lure had six calls; Rutherford County EMS responded to 77 calls and Rescue had 32 calls.

Bostic, Cliffside and SDO responded to motor vehicle crashes during the weekend; Cliffside also responded to a house fire with Sandy Mush and Ellenboro assisting; Lake Lure  and Rutherfordton responded to fire alarms.
Arrests
Phillip Ray Greene, 43, Twin Leaf Road in Rutherfordton, was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver controlled substance; breaking and entering, misdemeanor; $11,000 unsecured.
Jeremy Scott Powell, 32, North Glenn Street in Ellenboro was charged with reckless driving to endanger, unsealed wine/;oquor in passenger area; driving while impaired; speeding expired registration tax; expired inspection; $12,000 bond.
Orlando Phlice Ross, 27, South Ridgecrest in Rutherfordton; charged with assault on a female; 48-hour hold
Rebecca Tate Santiago, 26, Amity Drive in Forest City was charged with false report to police station; written promise to appear.
Kimberly Anne Sachlutow, 26, South Church Street in Forest City,was charged with failure to appear on driving while license revoked, expired registration,card and tag; $2,000 bond. 
Bobby Lee Cash, 21, Pennsylvania Street in Spindale, charged with possession controlled substance in jail; driving while license revoked; two failure to appear cases in Henderson County, $12,000 bond.
Michael Scott Toms, 45, Arnette Street in Rutherfordton was charged with assault on government official, resisting public officer, intoxicated and disruptive and criminal contempt; $5,000 bond.
