Man injured in accident
FOREST CITY — One man was taken to Rutherford Regional Medical Center and another treated at the scene of a vehicle accident Monday on Plaza Drive in Forest City.
According to Forest City Police Dept., Brian Keith Hicks,17, of Mooreboro was driving a 2002 Ford on Plaza Drive and his vehicle struck the back of a 2012 Honda driven by Shirley Gertrude Riggles, 84, of Mooresboro. Hicks told police he reached down to pick up a drink he dropped and by the time he looked up, it was too late to avoid hitting Riggles' car, stopped in the travel lane waiting on traffic.
Hicks went to the hospital and Riggles was treated at the scene.
Hicks was charged with failure to reduce speed.
Damage to his truck was $2,500 and damage to the Honda was $3,000
