Norris Library Art Show: Second art show for 2014 features art of Rutherford County Arts Guild Vice President Nancy Winker, MD; show runs April through June and may be viewed at the Norris Public Library, 132 North Main Street in Rutherfordton; library hours are 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m.-noon on Saturday; for more information call 828-288-5009.

Annual Advertising and Graphic Design Portfolio Show: Original art in a variety of media, techniques and styles, along with a wide range of photography by second-year graphic design and photography students will be on display in the main hallway and upper lobby of the Student Center Building at Isothermal Community College; show is 10:30 a.m. until 6 p.m.; friends and family invited to attend.

Power of the Purse: Join Family Resources for the 10th Annual Power of the Purse silent auction and dinner; First Baptist Church of Forest City; hors d'oeuvres and bidding begin at 5 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:15 p.m.; adults are $7 and children 12 and under are $5; all proceeds benefit Family Resources programs; for more information call 828-247-1440.

Poetry Reading: The TALC Cultural Events Taskforce presents "Loss Is a Thing With Feathers," a poetry reading and conversation about loss and healing; 7 p.m. at the Library Auditorium at Isothermal Community Colleges; three perspectives featuring Nancy Womack, Lynne Tanner and Kathy Ackerman.
