Washburn Community Outreach Center Bag Sale: All clothing, shoes and handbags that you can stuff in a bag for $2; today and Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m., closed on Friday, July 4; center is located at 2934 Piney Mountain Church Road in Bostic; all proceeds go towards the center's food pantry ministry.

Red, White and Blueberries Pie Contest Deadline: Last day to submit entries for July blueberry pie contest at Rutherford County Farmers Market this Saturday; entry forms and recipes must be submitted by mail, fax or email to Tracy Davis at Cooperative Extension (tracy.davis@ncsu.edu or 193 Callahan Koon Road, Spindale, NC 28160); judging begins Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Farmers Market.
