Deborah Logan
SPINDALE — Deborah Carpenter Logan, age 90, died Monday, May 20, 2013. The funeral service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Ulysses D. Miller Funeral Services. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the  service. Ulysses D. Miller Funeral Services is in charge of the arrangements.
 
Laverne Vipperman Blanton
Laverne Vipperman Blanton, age 49, of Mooresboro, NC, died Monday, May 20, 2013, at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.
Laverne was born October 20, 1963, in Danville, Virginia, to the late Douglas W. Vipperman and Gaynelle Strader Murray who resides in Mooresboro, NC. She was a graduate of Dan River High School, class of 1981, and worked for Cone Mills for several years. She attended Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church. She loved her children dearly.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, Morris Blanton; step-father, Wayne Murray and one grandson, A.J. Honeycutt.
Besides her mother, she is survived by three children, Stephanie Harville of Danville, Davina Akers and husband, Josh of Fort Bragg, NC and D.J. Osborne of Chatham, VA; one sister, Kimberly V. Smith and husband, L.D.; one brother Derek Vipperman all of Danville; step-mother, Patricia Vipperman of Danville; step-sister, Tammy Nolen and husband, Arnold and step-brother, Ronnie Murray all of Mooresboro. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her loving pet, Cha-ha.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, May 28, 2013, at the Floral Hills Memory Gardens in Danville, Virginia with Reverend Robert Harris officiating. The family will receive friends at the graveside following the service.
Memorial donations are suggested to Harriett Memorial Free Will Baptist Church, Trip Fund, 1938 US Highway 221A, Forest City, NC 28043.

Betty Whittemore Wease
ELLENBORO, NC — Betty Whittemore Wease, age 82, of Ellenboro, North Carolina, died Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at her residence.  
She was born May 1, 1931, in Rutherford County and was a daughter of the late Wesley B. and Jettie Padgett Hollifield, a graduate of Cool Springs High School and a member of First Baptist Church of Forest City where she was a member of the church choir. Betty was also a former member of the Forest City Lions Club and the Ellenboro Women's Club and retired from Fieldcrest Cannon Corporation, Human Resources Department. She was preceded in death by her first husband of 42 years, Patrick Fred Whittemore and her second husband, Odus Wease along with her  brothers and sisters, Gene Hollifield, Hughey Hollifield, Viola Champion, Eunice Blair,  and Marjorie Wright.
Survivors include her sons, Bruce Whittemore and wife, Vivian, Mike Whittemore and wife, Kay, all of Bostic; a sister, Juanita Hollifield Buckner of Surfside Beach, SC, five grandchildren, Patrick, Adam, Kacey, Amanda, and Christopher Whittemore and two great-grandchildren, Matthew Shipman and Grace Whittemore.
The funeral service will be held at two o'clock Friday in The Padgett and King Chapel with Reverend Dr. Barry K. Keys officiating with interment to follow in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held from one until two o'clock prior to the service at the mortuary.

MAJ Carl R. “Bo” Horton, (US Army, Ret.)
COLUMBIA, SC — A graveside service celebrating the life of MAJ Carl R. “Bo” Horton, (US Army, Ret.) 77, of Columbia will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 25, 2013, in Greenlawn Memorial Park Serenity Gardens with full military honors and interment to follow. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Friday evening at Greenlawn Funeral Home. 
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Carolina Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 537 Long Point Road, Suite 203, Mt Pleasant, SC 29464 in Carl’s memory.

Major Horton departed this earthly life on Sunday, May 19, 2013. He was born in Golden Valley, NC to Clyde Pernell Horton and Sarah Ellis Green Horton. Major Horton retired from the United States Army after 21 years of faithful service to our country in which he received numerous medals, awards, and decorations. After retirement from the United States Army, Major Horton was employed as a Registered Nurse at the Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, SC and he retired after 27 years of dedicated service.
Major Horton was predeceased by his parents; his son, Ricky Horton; and two brothers.
Surviving are his loving and devoted wife of 55 years, Shirley Faye Harrill Horton; a loving daughter, Sherry Horton; three sisters, Margaret Upton, Grace Newton, and Martha Jane Buchanan; two brothers, Robert Horton and Wink Horton; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends that will miss him dearly. Major Horton also had a special bond with Wally Creviston and Chip Booth whom he considered as his own sons.
 
Graham B. Wall, Jr.
FOREST CITY, NC — Graham B. Wall, Jr. , age 75, of Forest City, North Carolina, died peacefully on May 22, 2013, at Hospice House of Forest City from complications of lung cancer.  
He was born in Forest City on May 23, 1938, to the late Sara Brackett Wall and Graham Wall, Sr. 
Graham graduated from Cool Springs High School and attended Wake Forest and Mercer Universities. While residing in Nashville, Tennessee, he was employed for many years by Ames Pharmaceuticals and Miles Laboratories. His job allowed him to travel extensively, something he really enjoyed until his health began to decline.
From his mother, he inherited the ability to play the piano "by ear." He became an accomplished organist as well, and was Past President of the American Guild of Organist.
He is survived by a brother, Don M. Wall of Macon, GA; a sister, Linda W. Woody of Asheville, NC, and their families as well as a number of cousins.
A service at the graveside will be held at eleven o'clock Saturday, May 25, 2013, in the Cool Springs Cemetery with the Reverend Dr. Barry K. Keys officiating. The family will greet friends following the service at the cemetery.
