Rutherford County Senior Center Special Speaker: 2014 Legislative Priorities program featuring speaker Larry Gregg, Rutherford County's NC Senior Tar Hell delegate; event begins at 10:30 a.m. in the Senior Center dining room; topics discussed will include funding for senior centers, ratio of CNAs to residents in nursing homes and funding NC Adult Protective Services programs.

DAR Meeting: Griffith Rutherford NSDAR Chapter meeting at 3 p.m.; The Hut located at 271 North Toms Street in Rutherfordton; guest speaker will be NC State Regent, Peggy C. Troxell along with members of the Greenlee Chapter in Marion.

Beach Bingo: Beginning at 6 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m. at Lane's Hog Heaven BBQ in Forest City; cards are .50 cents per game; all proceeds go to the Community Pet Center's spay, neuter and rescue programs.

Friday, April 4

Spring Book Sale: Rutherford County Library book sale, located at 255 Callahan Koon Road in Spindale; 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.; large selection of science fiction, vinyl records, VHS tapes, DVDs, cookbooks and children's books.

The Right Track To A Cure For Pancreatic Cancer: Non-profit, interactive toy train museum in Lake Lure opens for the season at 1 p.m.; all of the funds raised at the museum go to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network; the museum is located at 2414 Memorial Highway and hours for April-May are Friday and Saturday, 1-5 p.m. and Sunday 2-5 p.m.; admission is $5 for everyone over the age of 2.

Shrimp and Grits Dinner: Fundraiser for Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach; held at Camp Lurecrest, located behind the Lake Lure Fire Department; beginning at 5 p.m. and ending at 8 p.m.; dinner and entertainment for $15 for adults and $5 for children; for tickets and more information call 828-625-4683.
