Buffet Breakfast, Egg/Candy Drop and Tomato Planting: Breakfast at the Gilkey School Community Center 7 a.m.-10 a.m.; adults are $5, kids 6-12 are $3 and kids 6 and under are free; after the breakfast at 10:30 a.m. there will be an egg/candy drop for kids under 12 who were unable to attend the Easter Egg Drop; following will be the yearly tomato planting, with kids taking home a tomato plant to watch it grow; events located at 172 Gilkey School Road; for information call 828-286-1172.
8th Annual Community Pet Center Festival: Dogs bring your pack, owner and family for lots of fun and exciting things to do; pet contests, blessing of the animals, bingo, music, pony rides, food, several vendors, doggy nail trims and free rabies and distemper/parvo vaccinations for the first 200 dogs; festival begins at 10 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. at Crowe Park in Forest City; all proceeds support the Community Pet Center.
Low-Cost Vaccine Clinic: Thunder Road Animal Hospital from noon until 1 p.m.; 1-year rabies shots are $12 cash and 3-year rabies shots are $14 cash; other discounted vaccines will be available for pets; the hospital is located at 827 Thunder Road in Spindale; for information call 286-0033.
50th Anniversary Celebration: Fair Haven Nursing Home and Assisted Living Center is hosting a 50th anniversary celebration from 2-4 p.m.; located at 149 Fair Haven Drive in Bostic; N.C. Secretary of Commerce Sharon Decker will address guests at 3 p.m.; refreshments will be served.
Union Mills Barbecue: Sponsored by the Union Mills Community Club at the Community House on Hudlow Road in Union Mills; event is 4-7 p.m.; all-you-can-eat barbecue is $8 for adults and free for children 5 and under; purchase a whole Boston butt for $25; proceeds go toward repairs for the Club House.
