Lucky New Year's Day Meal: Lake Lure Smokehouse will be serving its mountain breakfast buffet beginning at 7 a.m. for $10.99 per person; a New Year's lunch will also be served until 3 p.m. for $12.99; 25 percent of the New Year's Day gross sales will go to Hickory Nut Gorge Outreach.
6th Annual Lake Lure New Year's Day Polar Plunge: Hosted by the Chamber of Hickory Nut Gorge, the freezin' festivities will be held at the Lake Lure Beach, 2774 Memorial Highway; registration is 10:30-11:30 a.m. and the plunge starts at noon; entry fee is $20 and includes a Polar Plunge toboggan; awards given following the event including "Best Costume" and furthest traveler; proceeds benefit the Chamber of Hickory Nut Gorge; for more information call Kat Canant at 828-243-0540.
