Rutherford County Landfill and 10 convenience centers close at noon on Christmas Eve and will be closed all day on Christmas. All will reopen on Thursday, Dec. 26.

Friday, December 13

KidSenses Christmas Movie Night: Screening of "The Polar Express" Christmas movie at 6 p.m.; hot chocolate and popcorn provided to all visitors; event begins at 5:30 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m.; children welcome to wear their favorite Christmas pajamas.

Music at the Mills: Bluegrass performed by Blue Haze at 7 p.m. at 6495 Hudlow Road in Union Mills; doors open at 5 p.m., free admission, vendors on site for Christmas shopping, concessions available; for more information call 748-7956.

Visit the Santa House in Forest City: Friday and Saturday nights until Christmas; 6-9 p.m. on Fridays and 4-9 p.m. on Saturdays. No charge for children to talk with Santa; donation to Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy-CFA School is appreciated; $3 for a photo with Santa.

Ice skating in Downtown Forest City: Friday and Saturday nights until Christmas; beginning at 6 p.m. Rink located at the Santa House on East Main Street at BB&T parking lot; sponsored by Kidz Play; tickets $7; call 245-4543 to book skating parties.

Hayrides in Downtown Forest City: Fridays in December until Christmas; 6-9 p.m. across from the fountain; tickets are $2 for children and adults. See the holiday lights from a hay wagon pulled by an antique tractor; sponsored by Carson Farms.

Chase Corner United Methodist Ministries will be open from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; now open the second Saturday of every month.

Santa on the Chimney: Chimney Rock Park 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Enjoy an old-fashioned Christmas in Chimney Rock Village from 5-7 p.m.; music by the Lake Lure Classical Academy and Chase High Jazz Band, bake sale and meet Santa and Mrs. Claus.

KidSenses Wintry Wreath Workshop: Create two wreaths using handprints and colorful paper; workshop begins at 11 a.m. and lasts until 2 p.m.

Fish Fry and Rib Plates: Unionville Lodge, 399 Ledbetter Road in Spindale, 11 a.m. - until; plates $7, sandwiches $3.50, NY style hot dogs $2; all proceeds for the Building Fund; carry-outs welcome.

Hugh Christmas Party: Dinner, bands and Elvis impersonator at Foothills Music Hall, 127 Trade Street in Rutherfordton; $6 admission includes supper; begins at 5 p.m., alcohol-free venue.
