South Carolina company moves to Spindale
A commercial laundry facility is making its home in Spindale.
Isothermal Textiles, based in Gaffney, S.C., has purchased the former Watts Regulator building at 1148 Withrow Road in Spindale and plans to invest $2.31 million in building upgrades, equipment and machinery.
The company employs 34 people with additional hiring expected in the future.
According to Lee Rhyne, CEO of Isothermal Textile Services, a major factor in relocation was a partnership with Rutherford Regional Health Systems to perform laundry services.
"When I approached Rutherford Regional about performing their linen and laundry service, the leadership there said they wanted to work with me — if I agreed to relocate there," Rhyne said in a statement.
The county applied, and received, a $256,000 building reuse grant through the North Carolina Rural Center.
The building in Spindale will house the corporate offices, production and distribution operations.
It is the second announcement this week of a business relocating to Rutherford County.
Future job postings will be handled through the Division of Employment Security office at 139 E. Trade Street, Forest City.
Earlier this week, Sunrise USA announced it was moving its operations to the county.
Sunrise USA specializes in importing pillows, dog beds and fleece sheets. The company is moving its operations to 171 Race Path Church Road in Ellenboro and will expand to include both manufacturing and distributing. It's previous facility no longer met the company's needs or allowed for the addition of a manufacturing component to cut, sew and fill a variety of pillows.
The addition will bring eight new jobs with wages to start between $8-$9.50. Additional jobs will be relocated from Sunrise's previous facility. Six of those new jobs have already been hired.
