THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN GREENVILLE-SPARTANBURG HAS ISSUED A

* FLASH FLOOD WARNING FOR... POLK COUNTY IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA... RUTHERFORD COUNTY IN WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA...

* UNTIL 1130 PM EDT

* AT 724 PM EDT... NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED AN AREA OF HEAVY RAIN PRODUCING SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS MOVING NORTHWARD ACROSS POLK AND RUTHERFORD COUNTIES. ADDITIONAL THUNDERSTORMS HAD DEVELOPED BACK OVER SOUTH CAROLINA AND WERE HEADED TOWARD THIS SAME AREA. RADAR INDICATED RAINFALL RATES OF 1 TO 2 INCHES PER HOUR IN THE HEAVIEST DOWNPOURS... AND HEAVY RAINFALL WILL LIKELY CONTINUE THROUGH THE LATE EVENING HOURS.

* RUNOFF FROM THIS EXCESSIVE RAINFALL WILL CAUSE FLASH FLOODING TO OCCUR. SOME LOCATIONS THAT WILL EXPERIENCE FLOODING INCLUDE... COLUMBUS... RUTHERFORDTON... BOSTIC... CHIMNEY ROCK... CLIFFSIDE... ELLENBORO... FOREST CITY... LAKE ADGER... LAKE LURE... SPINDALE... AND TRYON. THE WORST FLOODING MAY OCCUR FROM MILL SPRING TO NEAR THERMAL CITY.
