Travis Durkee has been the sports editor at The Daily Courier since August 2012.
Durkee came to Rutherford County as a gradute of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte with a degree in communications studies with a concentration in mass media and a minor in journalism.
In 2013, the North Carolina Press Association honored Durkee with press awards in sports reporting, sports covereage, sports column writing and serious column writing.
At UNC Charlotte, Durkee served as the sports editor for the campus newspaper, The Niner Times, and was the primaray beat writer for the school's basketball and baseball teams. He also hosted a weekly radio show on the campus radio station and served as a freelancer for the Lincoln Times-News.
Durkee is a native of nearby Shelby, N.C.
